The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has suspended the collation of results for its primaries in Jigawa State following widespread violence, electoral irregularities, and logistical chaos that dragged the process beyond 48 hours.
The exercise, which began on Monday, descended into confusion as the party’s electoral committee struggled to compile results amid disputes, threats of violence, and outright failure to conduct polls in some areas.
Collation was abruptly halted around 1:45 a.m. on Wednesday at the Tahir Hotel in Dutse, the state capital.
Retired DIG Zaki Ahmed, Chairman of the ADC Electoral Committee in Jigawa, announced the suspension.
He noted that results had been received from only 19 out of 27 local government areas, with several others still pending or compromised.
Key issues cited include:
Irregularities and malpractices in areas such as Babura and Hadejia.
Threats of violence in Gwaram.
Complete failure to hold elections in Guri Local Government Area due to clashes between rival party factions.
Disputes over results from strategic LGAs like Roni, Auyo, and Kazaure.
The suspension comes at the heart of a heated governorship contest between Hon. Adamu Jumbo and Senator Sabo Nakudu, which has deeply divided delegates and party blocs.
Results for other positions, including State House of Assembly, House of Representatives, Senate, and presidential primaries also remain undeclared.
Ahmed stated that collation would resume after Eid prayers (initially scheduled for 2 p.m.), though reports suggest the process faces indefinite delays due to the severity of the issues.
Exhausted delegates and supporters who had waited overnight expressed frustration at the venue.
The development raises concerns about the ADC’s readiness ahead of the 2027 general elections and could deepen internal crises within the party in Jigawa State.
