The National Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Bolaji Abdullahi, has revealed that the party gave Peter Obi preferential treatment over other aspirants during his time in the party.
Abdullahi made the disclosure while responding to Obi’s claim that internal wrangling contributed to his decision to defect to the newly formed Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
Appearing on Arise Television’s Prime Time, the ADC spokesman acknowledged that the departures of Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso were significant losses, describing them as frontline politicians whose exit the party felt.
“I will be lying to say that their defection didn’t mean anything because these are two significant frontline politicians in this country and when you lose those two politicians then you will feel that you have lost something,” he said.
However, Abdullahi insisted the defections were not a mortal blow to the ADC, as the party is focused on building a broad-based coalition to rescue Nigeria from what he described as the misrule of the APC.
He noted that Obi and Kwankwaso had differing views on the direction the party should take.Addressing Obi’s concerns about legal challenges within the ADC, Abdullahi dismissed them as flimsy, stating the party currently has only three minor cases.
He emphasised that no other aspirant or leader received the level of favour and accommodation that Peter Obi enjoyed. “I can tell you that none of the aspirants and leaders have been favoured like Peter Obi,” Abdullahi declared.
