The African Action Congress (AAC) has adopted Omoyele Sowore as the consensus presidential candidate for the 2027 elections.
Speaking at the 2027 presidential primary of the party,
Kayode Babayemi, chairman of committee for the exercise, said that the decision
reflects the confidence of the party to the commitment of Omoyele Sowore to
true democracy.
“I declare Omoyele Sowore as the consensus presidential
candidate of the African Action Congress,” Babayemi said.
“This decision reflects the confidence of the party in his
consistency to leadership and long term commitment to the struggle and justice
free and truly democratic Nigeria, I sincerely appreciate every party members,
stakeholders, and supporters who came out today in solidarity with the vision
and values of our great party.
“Your steadfastness and unwavering belief continues to keep
Omoyele Sowore and the consensus candidate of the African Action Congress
(AAC).”
Accepting the nomination and the consensus candidate of the
party, Sowore said AAC remains the “only opposition party” which stands as an
alternative for Nigerians.
He said that the AAC has withstood different challenges,
noting that the party is not affiliated to godfatherism or corrupt politicians.
“While some claim that there was no alternative to
dictatorship, we declared revolutionnow in 2019,” Sowore said.
The Sahara Reporters publisher also noted that he was not
seeking a coalition with established parties but positioning himself as the
“coalition for revolutionary change”.
“And we are here, not only to take the cause of victory, we
are here to bring revolutionary change,” he said.
“One of the biggest questions asked of us is, are we not
forming a coalition? And we told them, we are the coalition. This is the
coalition. You are the coalition. And we are the coalition.”
Sowore said that AAC was different from other political
parties because it is built on hard-work.
“It is true. We don’t have a structure of criminality. We
don’t have a structure of incompetence. We don’t have a structure of
kidnapping. We don’t have a structure of insecurity,” he said.
“We are made up of hard working, young people, old people
and Nigerians all over the world. This is a party that started a beautiful
revolution.”
Sowore, also questioned why Nigerians would align with the
All Progressives Congress (APC) which is responsible for the country’s
challenges.
“Except Nigerians are mad. Who is going to join the party of
kidnappers? Who is going to join the party of criminals? Who is going to join
the party of the most incompetent people on the continent of Africa?” he asked.
Sowore also urged the international organisation like the
International Monetary Fund to stop giving loan to politicians as his
government would not pay back if he is elected president.
