President Bola Tinubu has issued a strong warning against allowing politicians lacking clear vision and workable ideas to reverse the country’s progress as Nigeria prepares for the 2027 general elections.
Tinubu made the remarks on Sunday after receiving the Certificate of Return and the flag of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the party’s presidential candidate for the 2027 election.
He used the occasion to reaffirm his commitment to building on the reforms his administration has initiated.
The President pledged to work even harder to deliver the kind of lasting development Nigerians desire, promising to put the country on an “irreversible path” of progress in the next four years.
While drawing a firm line against opposition without substance, Tinubu also extended an olive branch to critics.
He expressed openness to dialogue and engagement with political opponents, saying democracy thrives on diversity of ideas rather than uniformity of thought.
“We will not allow any opposition with no clear vision to take Nigeria backward,” Tinubu declared.“
"To those who despise our philosophy, we offer dialogue and engagement, not anger, confident that the sincerity of our purpose and the results of our work will speak for themselves,” he added.
The event marks Tinubu’s formal emergence as the APC standard-bearer for the next presidential race, setting the stage for what is expected to be a keenly contested election.
