Kenneth Okonkwo, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has predicted that former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, will lose all five states in the Southeast in the 2027 general elections.
Okonkwo made the assertion on Thursday during an interview on Politics Today, a programme on Channels Television.
He particularly criticised the ‘Obi or Nothing’ slogan, describing it as an abomination in Igbo culture.“Here is the catch. I’m trying to tell you why Peter Obi will lose the entire Southeast. Have you not heard of the slogan ‘Obi or Nothing’? First of all, that slogan is an abomination culturally in Igbo land,” Okonkwo said.
He explained that Igbo culture promotes the philosophy of Somadina, “I will not be the only person that will thrive. I will not be the only person that will succeed.”
Okonkwo drew a historical parallel with the 1979 elections, noting how Nnamdi Azikiwe ran under the NPP while his Igbo brother, Alex Ekwueme, ran as Vice Presidential candidate under the NPN.
“Azikiwe was very respectful of him. He did not tell Ekwueme to leave the NPN. At the end of the day, what happened? NPN won the election, and an Igbo man was vice president,” he added.
