Human rights activist and publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore, has formally declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election under the platform of the African Action Congress (AAC).
Sowore made the announcement on Friday during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today.
When asked if he would be the party’s candidate, Sowore responded: “Let the party decide.”
He added firmly: “I plan to contest the 2027 presidency. We have our party primaries next week.”
This will mark Sowore’s third attempt at the presidency, having previously run in 2019 and 2023 under the AAC.
He has consistently positioned himself as a voice for radical change, criticising the country’s political elite for failing to address poverty, insecurity, and economic hardship.
Sowore has argued that Nigeria needs fresh ideas and leadership outside the recycled politicians from the major parties. In recent interviews, he has claimed to possess better ideas than current President Bola Tinubu, Peter Obi, Atiku Abubakar, and other leading figures.
The activist-turned-politician urged Nigerians to support candidates with genuine vision rather than continuing with the same old political class.
His declaration comes as political realignments and declarations intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
