2027: Cubana Chief Priest’s Loss Reflects Igbo Discontent With Tinubu- Along Ejimakor

Aloy Ejimakor, counsel to detained Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader Nnamdi Kanu, has described the defeat of celebrity businessman Pascal Okechukwu, popularly known as Cubana Chief Priest, in the All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries as evidence of deep dissatisfaction among the Igbo people with President Bola Tinubu.

In a statement posted on his verified X handle on Monday, May 18, 2026, Ejimakor said Cubana’s loss, despite his close ties with the Tinubu family, reflects broader discontent among Ndigbo, including APC members.

“Cubana’s epic loss of the APC primary, despite his open fraternity with Seyi Tinubu, is proof that Ndigbo (including those in APC) are deeply unhappy with President Tinubu,” Ejimakor wrote.

“So, it’s Tinubu that actually lost & it’s an early evidence of what will happen in 2027, as I had earlier foretold.”

Cubana Chief Priest had contested the APC ticket for the Orsu/Orlu/Oru East Federal Constituency in Imo State but failed to secure the nomination.

He later stated that he did not fully participate in the primary process after the party adopted a zoning arrangement that favoured another candidate.

The development comes amid ongoing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, with several voices within and outside the APC expressing concerns over President Tinubu’s performance and its impact on different regions, particularly the South-East.

Ejimakor’s comment has sparked reactions online, with some viewing it as a strong political signal while others see it as an attempt to politicise the primary outcome.

This latest twist adds to the growing conversation about ethnic and regional sentiments as Nigeria approaches the next presidential election cycle.
