The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State has cleared Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Dennis Guwor, along with 45 other aspirants to contest the party’s House of Assembly primaries ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The screening committee announced the results after a two-day exercise held at the APC Secretariat in Asaba. Out of 82 aspirants who appeared before the panel, 46 were cleared after thorough verification of their credentials and eligibility.
Speaker Guwor was the sole aspirant cleared for the Warri South-West constituency. Among those who scaled through are 17 serving lawmakers from the eighth Assembly seeking re-election and three former commissioners: Funyei Manager (Bomadi), Harry Trakirlowei (Patani), and Orode Uduaghan (Warri North).
The committee, chaired by Dr. Uche Uzochukwu with Dr. Chiedozie Nwafor as secretary, disqualified 36 aspirants for various irregularities and violations of party guidelines and the Electoral Act.
Reasons for disqualification included:
Attempts to induce or bribe panel members
Submission of unsworn or multiple/invalid affidavits
Failure to present Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs)
Invalid or inconsistent APC membership slips and numbers
Inconsistencies in dates of birth and names on official documents
Non-payment of party dues
Insufficient ward nominators
Violations of zoning arrangements in certain constituencies
Failure to resign from political appointments as required by law
The committee stressed that the screening was conducted transparently and in line with APC rules and the Electoral Act.
It warned that disregarding zoning agreements could harm the party’s prospects in the 2027 elections.
Successful aspirants were congratulated, while disqualified candidates were advised not to view the decision as final.
They were urged to approach the party’s Screening Appeal Committee for possible redress.
The exercise is part of efforts to strengthen internal democracy within the Delta APC ahead of the forthcoming primaries.
