Nollywood actor and vocal political commentator Yul Edochie has asserted that former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi is not positioned to become President of Nigeria at this time.
In a post shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Tuesday, Edochie dismissed Obi’s ongoing political maneuvers, particularly his reported alignment with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He described the effort as “dead on arrival” and a “total waste of time.”
“Any political party Peter Obi joins will scatter. Whatever he’s doing with ADC is dead on arrival. A total waste of time. It’s not a physical problem. It’s deeper than that. I’m surprised he doesn’t know this already. Or maybe he knows but chooses to ignore it. But the truth remains the truth. Peter Obi cannot be President of Nigeria now,” Edochie wrote.
The actor, a known supporter of President Bola Tinubu, suggested that Obi’s involvement tends to weaken rather than strengthen opposition platforms.
Edochie himself ran for governor of Anambra State in 2017 under the Democratic Peoples Congress and has grown increasingly outspoken on national political matters.
Obi, who was Anambra State governor and emerged as a strong third-force contender in the 2023 presidential election with notable youth and urban backing, has been actively involved in opposition coalition talks.
He has engaged with figures linked to the ADC, framing the movement as an effort to “rescue Nigeria from poverty, disunity and democratic decline.”
Despite speculation of internal opposition tensions, Obi has downplayed concerns about potential rivalry with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, referring to him as a “dear elder brother and respected leader.”
Edochie’s remarks have sparked fresh debate online about Obi’s political prospects as opposition forces gear up for 2027.
