YPP pegs presidential form at N50m

The Young Progressives Party on Friday unveiled its roadmap for the 2026 electoral cycle, fixing dates for its congresses, primaries and national convention, while pegging its presidential nomination form at ₦50m.

YPP National Publicity Secretary, Egbeola Martins, disclosed this in a statement released in Abuja.

Martins explained that the decisions were reached at the party’s 25th National Executive Committee meeting held at its national secretariat in Abuja.

The meeting comes as political parties across Nigeria begin early preparations and internal alignments ahead of the next general election cycle, with a focus on candidate selection and grassroots mobilisation.

He said, “The NEC also approved nomination fees across all elective positions, with the presidential form pegged at ₦50m and governorship at ₦20m. Senate aspirants are to pay ₦8m, House of Representatives ₦3m, and state assembly hopefuls ₦1.5m.

“While expression of interest forms remain free, YPP introduced a 50 per cent concession on nomination fees for aspirants below 40 years, women, and persons living with disabilities to encourage broader participation. The sale of forms begins immediately.”

Under the approved timetable, primaries for state Houses of Assembly are slated for May 24, followed by those for the House of Representatives and Senate on May 25.

Similarly, governorship primaries will hold on May 26, while the national convention and presidential primary are scheduled for May 30.

Meanwhile, the NEC has expressed grave concern over the worsening state of insecurity across the country, particularly the rise in kidnapping for ransom and violent attacks on citizens and security personnel.

“YPP condemns the apparent impunity with which these criminal elements operate across all regions of the country. We hereby call on the President and Commander-in-Chief to demonstrate stronger political will and decisiveness in addressing the security crisis.

“The continuous loss of lives, including those of gallant military personnel, is unacceptable and demands immediate and effective action,” Martins stated.
