The Vice-Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party LP, in the 2023 elections, Dr Datti Baba-Ahmed, has said whoever is going to defeat President Bola Tinubu in the forthcoming presidential election must be a man of impeccable character.
Baba-Ahmed, in an interview with Channels Television,
insisted that the Labour Party won the 2023 presidential poll.
On the 2023 elections, he insisted that the Labour Party won
the poll, saying: “Today in Abuja, you have the Moshood Abiola Stadium; you
have Democracy Day because they believed that the late MKO won the election.
The result of June 12 was never declared, yet they believed, and today it
stands. So I believe we won the 2023 elections. If not, why was IReV switched
off shamelessly? APC did not win the election, but the court has the power.
“If you want justice, make sure you have served justice in
the past. Make sure you are a clean person and you have not done all those
wrong things. What APC is basking on is that they are election riggers,
inflating contracts,
“If you allow that election to stay, that would be the end
of democracy. You have a regime whose primary purpose is to destabilise other
political parties. They have succeeded in destroying other political parties.
At the expense of what they should have done by providing security, improving
our economy, and stopping the stealing, which they don’t do.”
Asked for his evidence, Datti said: “My capital evidence
that APC is behind this is that they have failed in everything. They have
failed in improving our lives, and that is enough evidence.
With the kind of wealth Nigeria has, why were two brigadier
generals killed? Whoever is going to defeat Tinubu must be somebody impeccable.
And Nigeria has people with clean characters. And the crime we have committed
against ourselves is those people staying away.”
He further added that he is set to leave the Labour Party
and join the People’s Redemption Party, PRP.
According to him, the decision follows internal
disagreements within the Labour Party, which he said has drifted from its
original ideals.
“I am leaving the Labour Party tomorrow(today). There is
more to it. What the Labour Party stood for then is no longer what it is
today,” he said.
Baba-Ahmed added that his exit from the party would take
effect at midnight, stressing that his next political destination is the PRP.
“I am leaving the Labour Party at midnight, and I am joining
PRP. PRP is the new destination. PRP is the one with a history. It’s about 75
years old,” he stated.
The PRP, founded in 1978 by the late Aminu Kano, is one of
Nigeria’s oldest political movements, known for its progressive ideology.
Baba-Ahmed ran alongside Labour Party presidential candidate
Peter Obi in the 2023 general election.
