Vice President Kashim Shettima on Tuesday stood in for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the grand finale of the 2026 National Police Day celebration held at Eagle Square, Abuja.
Shettima arrived early at the venue and immediately inspected the parade, taking the salute from officers of the Nigeria Police Force as the ceremony kicked off.
Confirming the Vice President’s participation, his media aide, Stanley Nkowcha, said in a statement: “Vice President Kashim Shettima is currently taking the salute from officers on parade as the 2026 National Police Day ceremony gets underway.”
The event drew top government officials, senior police officers, security chiefs, and personnel from across the country.
Organisers said it was designed to highlight the professionalism and discipline of the Nigeria Police Force while honouring officers who lost their lives in the line of duty.
Tributes were paid to fallen personnel during the ceremony, which featured officers lined up in full parade formation in a display of regimental precision.
National Police Day is observed annually to recognise the contributions of the police to national security and to strengthen public trust in the force.
