More details have emerged from the deadly bandit attack on a branch of the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) in Ariko community, Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State, during Easter service on Sunday.
Bandits invaded the community on over 20 motorcycles, surrounded the ECWA church while the service was ongoing, and opened fire indiscriminately.
Five worshippers were killed while attempting to escape, while 29 others were abducted.The victims killed at the ECWA church have been identified as:
Tanko Haruna
Waziri Agunu
Aminu Soba
Joseph Audu
Adamu Jatau
A security source who confirmed the incident said the attackers also shot at fleeing worshippers from a nearby Catholic church, killing one person.
Among those abducted are:
Garba Tanko, his wife Lami Garba, their daughter Rachel Garba, and grandchild Moses Yakubu
Rahab Usman and his daughter Victoria Rahab
Sunday Ayuba
Dantani Alhaji, his wife Mary Dantani, and their three daughters, Helen, Rejoice, and Ahmadu
Following the attack, the entire community has been deserted, with many residents fleeing to neighbouring towns including Katari, Jere, and Kachia.
The Kaduna State Police Commissioner, CP Rabiu Mohammed, and the Sector 4 Commander of the Nigerian Army, Col. IR Adom, led a large convoy of over 30 vehicles to the area to assess the situation.
The Kaduna State Police Command is yet to issue an official statement on the incident as at the time of this report.
