UNIJOS Set to Resume Full Academic Activities After Plateau Killings

The University of Jos (UNIJOS) has announced the full resumption of academic activities following the deadly attacks in Plateau State that claimed the lives of two of its students.

The decision comes after a return to relative calm in the area following the March 29 attack on the Angwan Rukuba community, which left over 33 people dead.

UNIJOS Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Tanko Ishaya, disclosed this during a press briefing on Thursday, April 9, 2026.

He confirmed that the institution lost two students, Abel Joro Gershon and Adeyomo Oluwafemi Temitope in separate incidents linked to the violence, while three others sustained injuries.

The university had earlier suspended and rescheduled its first-semester examinations due to the security situation, including a government-imposed curfew in Jos North LGA and fresh violence along Bauchi Road on April 1.

Prof. Ishaya, however, emphasised that the university campuses remained secure throughout the crisis, with no breach of peace recorded on campus. He noted that security has now been significantly enhanced.

Examinations are scheduled to resume on Monday, April 13, 2026.The Vice-Chancellor commiserated with the families of the deceased and urged continued collaboration between the government, security agencies, and host communities to prevent future occurrences.
