Residents of Borno State are beginning to experience significant relief from soaring transportation costs following the deployment of 20 electric buses by Governor Babagana Umara Zulum.
The state government has introduced the electric buses across major routes in Maiduguri with a heavily subsidised fare of just ₦50 per drop, offering a much-needed cushion against the impact of rising petrol prices.
The new air-conditioned buses are capable of covering over 400 kilometres on a single charge and are supported by a large-scale charging infrastructure to ensure seamless daily operations.
Commuters, including students, civil servants, and traders, have welcomed the initiative, describing it as a timely intervention that has improved access to affordable and comfortable transportation while reducing the financial strain of daily commuting.
The rollout forms part of Governor Zulum’s broader strategy to promote cleaner, energy-efficient mobility and ease the economic burden on residents amid current national economic challenges.
