Presidential aide Daniel Bwala has strongly defended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s victory in the 2023 presidential election, insisting it was won on merit and not by chance.
Speaking during an interview on ARISE NEWS on Thursday, Bwala, Special Adviser to the President on Policy Communication, dismissed ongoing criticisms from opposition leaders, describing their comments as mere political marketing ahead of future elections.
Bwala particularly reacted to claims by Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, as well as a recent comment by Buba Galadima of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
“If you bring a corpse to the election day, that the corpse will defeat President Bola Tinubu. But unfortunately, the four corpses in their camp have all been defeated by President Bola Tinubu,” Bwala said.
He emphasised that Tinubu triumphed against strong contenders both in the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential primary and the general election.“President Bola Tinubu became president today. He won that election on merit,” Bwala declared.
He noted that Tinubu defeated Rotimi Amaechi, who was reportedly favoured by many around former President Muhammadu Buhari, during the primary.
In the general election, Tinubu went on to defeat Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rabiu Kwankwaso.Bwala argued that the opposition has failed to present a credible alternative to Nigerians.
“They have not been able till today… to be able to express that better alternative that they have,” he said.
He also addressed public discontent, attributing much of it to perception shaped by social media rather than actual performance.
While acknowledging challenges in the economy, security, and power sector, Bwala defended the government’s reforms particularly the removal of fuel subsidy saying it has boosted revenue available to states for infrastructure and services.
The presidential aide concluded that Nigerians will ultimately decide at the ballot box, urging the opposition to focus on presenting better ideas rather than consistent criticism.
