Rotimi Amaechi, former governor of Rivers state, says he was chased out of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) by then President Goodluck Jonathan and his wife.
Amaechi spoke on Friday during an appearance on ‘Sunrise
Daily’, a Channels Television breakfast programme.
The ex-minister of transportation who now belongs in the
African Democratic Congress (ADC), said he would support Atiku Abubakar if
the former vice-president becomes the
standard-bearer of the party for the 2027 presidential poll.
Amaechi left the PDP in 2013 following his suspension for
alleged anti-party activities.
He was a key figure in the new PDP (nPDP) faction that
emptied into the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2015 general
poll.
Jonathan lost his re-election battle to Muhammadu Buhari of
the APC who governed Nigeria from 2015 to 2023.
Amaechi played a prominent role in Buhari’s election
victory.
“I was literally chased out of the PDP… the president,
Goodluck and his wife took over the political structure in Rivers state and
forced me out. The same thing happened in APC,” he said.
“I will never keep quiet in the face of injustice. When I
speak up, they begin to plan to make me irrelevant.”
