President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Dr. Fatima Suleiman Zuntu as the new Director-General/Chief Executive Officer of the National Biosafety Management Agency (NBMA).
Dr. Zuntu brings a strong background in medicine and public health to the role. She graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine from the University of Maiduguri in 2016 and earned an MSc in Public Health from the University of South Wales, United Kingdom, in 2021.
Her professional experience spans both clinical practice and high-level advisory roles, including:
Health, Nutrition & Population Consultant (STC) at the World Bank Group (December 2023 – June 2025)
Resident Doctor, Department of Public Health & Community Medicine, Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital, Kaduna (2021–2022)
Team Lead, Provider Network Management, NNPC Health Maintenance Organisation Ltd (2019–2020)
Medical Officer at Kapital Hospital & Maternity, Abuja, and Central Bank of Nigeria
Medical House Officer, National Hospital Abuja (2017–2018)
She is a Fellow of the West African Institute of Public Health, a Member of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria, and a registered member of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria.
She also holds multiple advanced certifications in climate science, humanitarian response, COVID-19 management, GIS for HIV/AIDS monitoring, health insurance, gender and reproductive health, and governance.
Dr. Zuntu has been actively involved in politics as National Coordinator of Grassroots Mobilization for Tinubu/Kashim Shettima and a member of the APC Presidential Campaign Council.
The appointment is expected to strengthen the NBMA’s mandate in regulating modern biotechnology and ensuring biosafety in Nigeria.
