Suspected Boko Haram terrorists have killed four soldiers and a civilian woman in a fresh attack on Mussa community in Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.
The assault occurred around noon on Wednesday and lasted approximately 30 minutes, with heavy gunfire forcing many residents to flee their homes in panic.
Chairman of Askira/Uba LGA, Mada Saidu, confirmed the incident on Thursday, saying: “There was an attack at Mussa ward yesterday afternoon. They killed one civilian, a lady, and four soldiers.”
Military sources revealed that the slain troops were from the 115 Task Force Battalion. They engaged the terrorists in a fierce resistance to prevent them from entering the town.
“Four of our men were killed while ensuring the terrorists did not gain entrance into the town. The attackers were not many, but it was a coordinated attempt to break through,” a military source said.
Residents praised the soldiers’ efforts, noting that without their intervention, the terrorists would have caused greater destruction in the community.
This latest attack adds to the series of violent incidents targeting both military positions and civilian settlements in Borno State.
The Nigerian military is yet to issue an official statement on the incident as of the time of this report.
