Heavy police presence has been reported at the Mundubawa residence of Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau, former Governor of Kano State, as he prepares to formally decamp to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) today, Wednesday, April 8, 2026.
Professor Nentawe Yilwatda Goshewa, the National Chairman of the APC, is expected to lead the formal reception of Shekarau, a former Minister of Education and ex-Senator representing Kano Central at his residence, alongside his supporters and members of his Shura Council.
Although earlier indications suggested Shekarau was still consulting with his Shura Council before finalising his exit from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the APC leadership is moving ahead with the high-profile defection ceremony.
Political observers believe Shekarau’s return to the APC will significantly strengthen the party’s position in Kano State ahead of future elections, potentially creating major challenges for Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and the opposition African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the state.
