The Kano State Police Command has arrested six suspects in connection with a violent attack on the popular Farm Centre mobile phone market in Kano metropolis.
The incident occurred on Monday, April 27, 2026, around 1:20 pm when suspected ‘Yan Daba thugs mobilized for a clash. Police patrol teams were quickly deployed following a distress call.
Upon arrival, officers encountered a violent confrontation between the thugs. In the chaos, an ambulance was vandalized, and the hoodlums attempted to attack other areas. When confronted, the suspects regrouped and assaulted police officers with dangerous weapons and stones.
The police successfully repelled the attack, forcing the thugs to flee to the Farm Centre Market, where they tried to break into shops and loot properties. Reinforcement teams were immediately mobilized, and the hoodlums were dispersed. Six suspects were arrested during the operation.
The state Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, confirmed the arrests through the command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna. He stated that normalcy has been restored to the area.CP Bakori warned that the police will not tolerate any form of thuggery or ‘Yan Daba activities in Kano State.
He urged parents and guardians to caution their wards against causing trouble, stressing that anyone found fomenting unrest will be arrested and prosecuted.
The commissioner commended the officers for their swift response, gallantry, and professionalism, which prevented further breakdown of law and order and loss of property. Investigations are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects and identify the sponsors of the clash.
The attack earlier caused pandemonium at the market as the thugs assaulted traders and customers in broad daylight while wielding dangerous weapons.
