Police arrest 15 for illegal obstructions along Lagos-Ibadan expressway

Ogun State Police Command has apprehended 15 individuals for allegedly obstructing public roads and breaching environmental regulations along the Ifo axis of the Lagos–Abeokuta Expressway.

DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the command’s Public Relations Officer, confirmed the arrests in a statement issued on Friday in Ota.

He noted that the action forms part of the ongoing “No Traffic Gridlock” operation in the area.

According to Babaseyi, the enforcement initiative was conducted under the directive of the state Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, to ensure smooth traffic flow and maintain public order throughout the state.

Officers from the Ifo Division were deployed to key locations, particularly the Abekoko and Old Bank sections of the expressway, where persistent traffic disruptions had been reported.

“The operation focused on traders’ illegal display of goods and makeshift structures that obstructed vehicular movement and violated environmental laws.

“During the enforcement, several planks, shanties, and other items blocking the highway were removed, with over six trucks utilized to clear the area,” Babaseyi said.

The PRO added that the 15 individuals who defied lawful orders and violated environmental regulations were taken into custody and would face prosecution upon completion of investigations.

Babaseyi stated that the Commissioner of Police commended the officers for their professionalism and reiterated the command’s commitment to enforcing traffic and environmental regulations.

He warned that any person or group, including traders and transport operators, found obstructing public roads would face appropriate legal action.
