Police Arrest 12 Suspects in Jos Amid Heightened Security Operations

Nigerian police have arrested 12 suspects in Jos as part of intensified security measures to prevent unrest and enforce curfew restrictions.

The arrests were made shortly after Friday’s Jumat prayers in the Zololo area, where the suspects allegedly attempted to incite violence by crossing into the Nasarawa area armed with sticks.

Plateau State Police Commissioner Bassey Ewah confirmed the arrests, saying security forces were already on alert and responded swiftly.

“About 30 minutes after prayers, some miscreants around Zololo area wanted to create problems for us, but they met us waiting. I can tell you that we have 12 of them arrested,” he said.

Ewah assured that the suspects will be prosecuted and warned that security agencies will not tolerate any attempt to destabilize the state.

The operation is part of broader security reinforcement following President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s recent visit to Plateau.

Authorities have deployed four mobile police units, over 300 additional officers, and personnel from other security agencies.Joint patrols are currently ongoing across the state, with strict enforcement of the 3 p.m. curfew, alongside bans on okada (motorcycle taxis) and restrictions on tricycles.

Ewah described the Friday prayers as peaceful but cautioned residents against those seeking to cause conflict.

He urged citizens to remain law-abiding, cooperate with security forces, and report any suspicious activities.
