Plateau Govt Eases Curfew in Jos North After Relative Calm Returns

The Plateau State Government has relaxed the 48-hour curfew earlier imposed on Jos North Local Government Area following the deadly Palm Sunday attack on Angwan Rukuba community.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Joyce Ramnap (also referred to as Hon. Joyce Lohya Ramnap), the government cited the return of relative calm and improved security situation in the area as the reason for the adjustment.

“ In light of the relative calm recorded after the recent violent attack on citizens of Angwan Rukuba in Jos North Local Government Area, the Plateau State Government, under the leadership of His Excellency, Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has announced the relaxation of the 48-hour curfew earlier imposed on the area,” the statement said.

Effective from Wednesday, April 1, 2026, residents of Jos North will now be permitted to move freely between 7:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. daily to carry out their lawful activities.

The original 48-hour curfew was imposed from midnight of March 29 to April 1, 2026, following the attack in Gari Ya Waye community of Angwan Rukuba, which resulted in several deaths.

The government urged residents to make good use of the allowed window while strictly observing all security guidelines and cooperating with security agencies to sustain the prevailing peace.

Authorities also warned that any breach of the relaxed curfew or acts capable of undermining security would be met with appropriate sanctions.

The decision aims to balance the need for security with the socio-economic activities of residents in the affected area.
