Troops attached to the convoy of the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division, Nigerian Army, and Commander Sector 2 Operation Fansan Yamma have neutralised several bandits in a fierce gun battle in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The incident occurred around 4:30 p.m. on Monday, April 6, 2026, while the GOC was returning from an operational assessment visit to troops deployed at Kulchin Kalgo and the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Danjibga.
Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the convoy came under attack from fleeing terrorists at Maitashi village, sparking an intense exchange of fire.
The troops responded decisively, killing several of the bandits and recovering arms, ammunition, and motorcycles from the scene.
However, one soldier sustained gunshot injuries during the encounter. He was immediately evacuated to Keta Healthcare Centre but was later confirmed dead.
The area was thoroughly cleared by the troops before the convoy proceeded to Gusau. Security operations in the axis are said to be ongoing.
