The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has directed telecommunications operators to compensate subscribers with airtime credits for poor network quality.
NCC Executive Vice-Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Aminu Maida, issued the directive on Thursday during a media breakfast meeting in Lagos.
Maida said the order followed verified failures by operators to meet established minimum quality of service standards in several locations across the country.
He noted that the commission had recorded persistent complaints from users over dropped calls, poor voice quality, and slow data services.
Under the new directive, affected subscribers are to receive airtime compensation when telcos fail to deliver acceptable service levels. The NCC said it will monitor compliance and apply sanctions where operators default.
Maida added that the move is part of broader efforts to protect consumers and compel service providers to invest in network upgrades and maintenance.
