Lagos Signs New Power Deals to Boost Electricity Supply

The Lagos State Government has signed three new power purchase agreements (PPAs) and introduced a strict “no power, no pay” policy to improve electricity supply to public facilities.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu witnessed the signing of the agreements at Lagos House, Marina, on Sunday.

“Today at Lagos House, Marina, I witnessed the signing of three power purchase agreements designed to build on existing capacity and address what has not been working,” the governor stated.

The new deals aim to ensure the state only pays for actual energy delivered, reducing waste and improving reliability.Under the agreements:

Fenchurch Power will supply electricity to key water facilities in Adiyan and Iju.

Mainland Power will serve Ikeja, Oshodi, and Anthony areas, with room for expansion.

Viathan will continue powering major facilities on the Island.

Governor Sanwo-Olu explained that the agreements have been updated to reflect current market realities in the power sector.

“We will no longer pay for power that is not delivered. Payments are now tied to actual, metered supply,” he added.

He expressed confidence that the move would deliver more reliable power to critical public infrastructure, ensure prudent use of state resources, and pave the way for increased electricity capacity in the coming years.

The development forms part of Lagos State’s broader efforts to tackle power challenges and enhance service delivery across the state.
