2027: Ibadan Opposition Declaration a Call for National Liberation – Pat Utomi

Professor Pat Utomi has described the recent opposition declaration in Ibadan as a bold call for the liberation of Nigeria from emerging authoritarian tendencies.

Utomi, a Professor of Political Economy and chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), made the remark on Sunday while speaking on Arise Television’s Morning Show.

He was reacting to the Opposition Summit held on Saturday in Ibadan, Oyo State, where leaders of various opposition political parties resolved to field a single presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections.

According to Utomi, Ibadan was an appropriate venue for the declaration by opposition politicians who are committed to rescuing Nigerians from what he described as creeping fascism, pressure toward a one-party state, and attempts to undermine multiparty democracy in the country.

“Ibadan was an appropriate venue for the declaration by opposition politicians committing to rescue Nigerians in the face of creeping fascism, pressure toward a one-party state, and the shenanigans designed to disrupt multiparty democracy in this country,” Utomi said.

He added that the meeting was symbolic, demonstrating that Nigerians are willing to set aside personal egos and ambitions for the sake of the nation.

“This meeting was symbolic, a demonstration that there are people willing to set aside their egos and personal ambitions so that Nigeria may prevail,” he stated.

The comments come as opposition figures intensify efforts to build a united front ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
