The Lagos State Government has firmly denied reports circulating on social media claiming that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has resigned on health grounds.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the government described the report as “false, malicious, and misleading.”
The statement, signed by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso, clarified that Governor Sanwo-Olu is in good health and remains fully focused on the discharge of his duties.
“There is no iota of truth in the rumour making the rounds that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has resigned on health grounds. The Governor is hale and hearty and continues to carry out his responsibilities without any hindrance,” the statement read.
The government warned members of the public, especially social media users, to disregard the fake news and refrain from spreading unverified information capable of causing unnecessary panic and anxiety among residents.
It further stated that Governor Sanwo-Olu remains committed to delivering good governance and the ‘Greater Lagos’ agenda for all citizens of the state.
The denial comes hours after a report went viral suggesting that the governor had stepped down due to ill health. No credible source has been linked to the initial claim.
As of the time of this report, Governor Sanwo-Olu was said to be actively engaged in official duties at the Alausa Secretariat.
The Lagos State Government urged citizens to always verify information from official channels before sharing.
