The family of a kidnapped University of Jos (UNIJOS) student, John Arum Azi, has confirmed his release following ransom negotiations of N6 million with abductors after 10 days in captivity.
Azi, a student of early childhood education, was abducted while travelling from Jos, Plateau State, to Zaria in Kaduna State.
His ordeal drew widespread attention after a disturbing video surfaced online showing him being brutalised by his captors, who initially demanded a ransom of ₦30 million and threatened to kill him.
Following negotiations with his family, the ransom was reduced to ₦6 million. The amount was reportedly raised through contributions from concerned Nigerians.
Despite this, the abductors allegedly demanded an additional ₦4 million after receiving the initial payment.
His release was confirmed on Wednesday through a video shared by his family on social media, showing him reunited with loved ones.
