The Oyo State Executive Council, chaired by Governor Seyi Makinde, has approved the sum of N5.813 billion as compensation for over 900 property owners whose lands have been affected by the ongoing construction of the Ibadan Circular Road project.
The approval was announced on Wednesday in a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, in Ibadan.
According to the statement, the payment is expected to resolve agitations and misinformation surrounding the project, accelerate its planning and execution, boost investors’ confidence, and fast-track the transformation of Ibadan and Oyo State.
It was noted that over N800 million had already been paid in the first phase of compensation to affected persons within the past 18 months.
Governor Makinde’s administration has continued to prioritise the welfare of residents, especially since the removal of fuel subsidy, through various interventions under the Sustainable Action for Economic Recovery (SAfER) programme, including food palliatives, health insurance, MSME support, and transportation subsidies.
The council also approved N710.382 million for transportation subsidies covering March to August 2026, building on last year’s support that benefited over four million commuters, including pensioners, students, and persons with disabilities.
Other approvals by the council include the expansion of the Okaka Junction–Otu–Igbeti–Kishi road reconstruction project by N3.981 billion and the completion of the state Christian Wing multipurpose hall at N126.912 million.
The Ibadan Circular Road is a flagship infrastructure project of the Makinde administration aimed at easing traffic congestion and promoting urban development in the state capital.
