Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has strongly condemned some youths for their indecent behaviour during the recent visit of Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.
The governor described the act in which some youths reportedly displayed red underwear in a mocking manner as immoral, contrary to Kano’s cultural and religious values, and a clear departure from his administration’s “Kano First” agenda.
Speaking on Sunday during the Third Special Prayer for Lasting Peace at the Government House, Governor Yusuf distanced himself, his government, and the people of Kano from the incident.
He emphasised that the conduct violated Islamic teachings on modesty, discipline, and respect for leaders.“Our youths should be symbols of hope and development, not tools for mockery or moral decadence,” he said through his Chief Press Secretary, Mustapha Muhammad.
The governor urged politicians to stop inciting youths towards indecency and instead focus on positive leadership.
He called on those involved to seek forgiveness and apologise to the people of Kano for the embarrassment caused.
The prayer session, which featured 4,444 Qur’anic reciters, was attended by the Emir of Kano (represented by Alhaji Aliyu Harazumi) and several prominent Islamic scholars.
