Popular Nigerian socialite and musician, Pascal Okechukwu, better known as Cubana Chief Priest, has alleged that the deadly attack in Jos on Palm Sunday was deliberately carried out to embarrass President Bola Tinubu on his 74th birthday.
The incident, which occurred on March 29, 2026, in the Gari Ya Waye community, Angwan Rukuba, Jos, Plateau State, reportedly claimed the lives of over 40 residents around 7:50 pm.
Reacting via his Instagram story on Tuesday evening, Cubana Chief Priest expressed deep empathy for the victims, saying he has been disturbed by a video of a woman and her child from the scene. “When will these killings ever stop?” he questioned.
He also criticised Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang for visiting the affected community in a bunker, arguing that true leadership requires fearlessness. “The Governor in Jos pulled up in a Bunker, does it mean everyone should now pull up in bunkers because he is more scared for his life than the people. To lead a state you have to be fearless and be ready to lay your life for the people,” he wrote.
The socialite, who is part of a support group for President Tinubu’s re-election bid, directly linked the timing of the attack to the President’s birthday. “I feel for everyone in Jos. This was clearly done to embarrass our president on his birthday,” he stated.
The claim has sparked mixed reactions online, with some critics, including singer Skales, describing the assertion as “delusional.”No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, which adds to the long-standing insecurity challenges in Plateau State. The Nigerian government has since assured residents of Jos of enhanced protection.
Further details on the investigation into the killings are awaited as security agencies continue their operations in the area.
