A son of former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, Bashir, has said it’s time for Nigeria to produce “a pure blood Igbo President”.
Bashir said until Nigeria produces an Igbo President, wounds
of the past would persist.
Posting on X, Bashir wrote: “It’s high time Nigeria had a
pure blood Igbo President. Until then, all these wounds of the past will
persist to remain.”
In 2019, Peter Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, was
the running mate to then Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential candidate,
Atiku Abubakar.
Due to the leadership wrangling in the PDP, Obi left the
party in 2023 for Labour Party, LP, where he contested for the presidential
election but finished third behind Atiku and President Bola Tinubu, who won the
poll on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
During the build-up to the 2023 presidential election, there
were agitations from the South-East for Nigeria to allow the emergence of an
Igbo President.
