Iranian drones struck energy installations in Bahrain early Sunday, igniting fires at storage facilities operated by Bapco Energies and operational units of the Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (GPIC), according to official statements.
Bahrain’s National Communication Centre confirmed the attack in a statement, noting that the blaze at a Bapco Energies site was quickly brought under control.
“The fire has been fully extinguished, and the situation is under control,” the centre said. “Damages are currently being assessed and evaluated. No injuries have been reported.”
Separately, GPIC reported that several of its operational units came under drone attack in the early hours of Sunday.
The state-run Bahrain News Agency quoted the company as saying fires broke out across the affected sites but were later fully extinguished, with operations now stabilized.
The incident forms part of a broader escalation in regional tensions, with Iran conducting multiple drone and missile strikes on Gulf states amid ongoing conflict involving U.S. and Israeli actions against Iranian targets.
Bahrain, which hosts the U.S. Navy’s Fifth Fleet, has intercepted hundreds of Iranian projectiles in recent weeks.
No further details on the scale of the attack or potential long-term impacts on Bahrain’s energy sector were immediately available.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation as damage assessments proceed.
