ICPC Disowns Viral Video, Denies Investigating Any SAN, Individual Over Alleged N50bn Bribe

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has strongly refuted a viral video circulating on social media, which falsely claims the anti-graft agency is investigating a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and others over a N50 billion bribe.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by its Head of Media and Public Communication, J. Okor Odey, the Commission described the video as “malicious” and fabricated, with some elements allegedly generated using artificial intelligence to mislead the public.

The ICPC clarified that it has not released any report or statement supporting the claims in the video, nor is it investigating any individual, SAN, group of lawyers, or judicial officer in connection with the fictitious N50 billion bribe.

“To clarify, the ICPC is not conducting an investigation into any individual, Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), group of lawyers, or judicial officer concerning the fictitious N50 billion bribe mentioned in the video,” the statement read.

“No such case, transaction, or investigation is recorded within the Commission’s files. These assertions are completely false and should be ignored.”

The Commission reiterated its commitment to conducting only credible, evidence-based investigations in line with the law. It warned the creators and distributors of the video to stop immediately, stating that the misuse of its name to spread disinformation will not be tolerated.

The ICPC further warned that those responsible for originating or circulating the content will face severe legal consequences once apprehended.
