Bandits have abducted nine residents in a midnight raid on Chacho community in Wurno Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The attack occurred around 11:00 pm on Wednesday when gunmen invaded the village through a route linked to the notorious Sabon Birni forest, a known bandit hideout.
A relative of one of the victims, who spoke anonymously, said residents were sleeping outside when an alarm was raised. As people fled, gunshots rang out from another part of the village.
The attackers abducted seven women and two elderly men, while two other residents sustained injuries and are receiving treatment.
Locals expressed frustration over the rising insecurity in the area, blaming the lack of security personnel for the repeated attacks.
Confirming the incident, Sokoto State Police Command spokesperson SP Ahmad Rufai said authorities are still verifying the exact number of people abducted.
