The Gombe State Government has approved the full implementation of the new national minimum wage for workers in the local government system.
Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya gave the approval, which was conveyed by the Head of Civil Service, Prof. Mu’azu Shehu, on Friday, April 24, 2026.
The directive covers staff of the 11 Local Government Councils, the Local Education Authority (LEA), and primary healthcare workers across the state. It takes effect from May 2026.
With this decision, the state government has cleared the outstanding 43 percent balance of the wage structure, bringing implementation to 100 percent.
The move was made possible due to improved fiscal conditions at the local government level, enabling councils to meet salary obligations without disruption.
Prof. Mu’azu Shehu stated that the full implementation is expected to boost workers’ morale, enhance productivity, and strengthen service delivery at the grassroots level.
The development comes as many states continue to grapple with the implementation of the revised national minimum wage (currently pegged at ₦70,000).
Gombe’s decision to extend full payment to local government workers is seen as a significant step towards improving the welfare of grassroots employees.
No immediate details were provided on the exact financial implications for the councils, but the approval reflects the governor’s commitment to ensuring timely and complete salary payments for public servants.
This latest approval adds to previous welfare measures for local government and education workers in the state.
