Ghana to Offer Visa-Free Entry to All Africans from May 25

President John Dramani Mahama has announced that Ghana will roll out visa-free travel for all African nationals starting May 25, 2026, coinciding with Africa Day.

Under the new policy, citizens from across the continent will enter Ghana without paying for a traditional visa.

Travelers will instead apply online for a free electronic visa (e-visa) before arrival, subject to standard security and immigration checks.

“I am pleased to announce that effective 25th May 2026, when we commemorate Africa Day, Ghana will commence a free visa regime for all Africans,” President Mahama said during bilateral talks with Zimbabwe’s President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

This makes Ghana the fifth African country to adopt such a broad visa-free policy for fellow Africans, following Kenya, Rwanda, Seychelles, and Benin.

The move is expected to boost tourism, trade, investment, and intra-African mobility in line with the African Union’s Agenda 2063 and the AfCFTA.

The Ghana Immigration Service will soon release full implementation details, including the online application process.

Travelers are advised to check official government channels for updates on entry requirements such as proof of funds, onward travel, and health documentation.
