There was mild drama on Monday morning in Ijebu-Ode as Senator Otunba Gbenga Daniel, representing Ogun East Senatorial District, was denied entry to the Ogun East Caucus meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Daniel was barred from accessing the venue at Adeola Odutola College (also referred to as Adeola Odutola Hall), where the Ogun East stakeholders’ meeting was holding.
A video circulating on social media captured the moment Daniel’s convoy was stopped at the gate. Addressing his supporters outside the venue, the former Ogun State Governor expressed disappointment over the development. “We are here for our Ogun East APC caucus meeting, but surprisingly, we have been barred; we are told that we can’t enter,” Daniel said.
“But let it be said that whatever they do here today is null and void.”He noted that he had been at the gate since around 10:00 a.m. waiting to participate in the meeting. Reports indicate that the Chairman of Odogbolu Local Government, Babatunde Diya, was involved in preventing his entry.
The incident highlights ongoing tensions within the Ogun State chapter of the APC, particularly in the Ogun East Senatorial District. Daniel, a key figure in the party and a former governor, has been at the centre of political manoeuvrings and power struggles ahead of future elections.
This is not the first time Daniel has faced internal party friction. In recent months, there have been reports of his purported suspension by some party executives over alleged anti-party activities, though stakeholders from Ogun East had previously dismissed such moves as invalid.
As of the time of this report, no official statement has been issued by the APC Ogun State chapter or the organisers of the caucus meeting regarding the reason for barring the senator. The development comes amid heightened political activities in Ogun State as various factions within the APC continue to position themselves for relevance in the 2027 general elections.
