Foreign Intelligence Operations May Be Behind Killings in Nigeria – Sheikh Gumi Alleges

Prominent Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Abubakar Gumi, has alleged that secret foreign intelligence operations could be responsible for the recurring killings across Nigeria, carried out through local collaborators.

In a Facebook post on Tuesday, Gumi reacted to the latest attack on Gari Ya Waye community in Angwan Rukuba, Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State, where over 20 people were reportedly killed and several others injured.

He strongly condemned the continuous slaughter of innocent Nigerians and warned against framing the violence along religious lines.

Gumi’s Allegation

According to the cleric, the pattern and coordination of recent attacks suggest a hidden external hand working with willing Nigerians acting as “foot soldiers.”He cited several incidents to back his claim:The coordinated bomb blasts in Maiduguri on March 16, 2026, which killed at least 23 people and injured over 100 others.

The gunmen attack in Jos on March 29, 2026 (Palm Sunday), which left several residents dead and injured.

Similar assaults that have also targeted members of the Nigerian Army, showing that both civilians and security forces are victims. Gumi insisted that the killings are not religious in nature but appear orchestrated by external forces seeking to destabilise the country.

Call on Government

The cleric urged the Federal Government to review its current security strategy and “think differently.”He specifically called for a reduction in foreign involvement in Nigeria’s security architecture and advised the government to instead seek assistance from “friendly super powers” in areas such as satellite intelligence and military equipment, while strengthening local security capacity.

Gumi concluded his message by praying for the quick recovery of those injured in the attacks and offered condolences to families who lost loved ones.

This latest statement from the controversial cleric comes amid heightened insecurity in parts of the North and Middle Belt, with frequent reports of banditry, bombings, and communal attacks claiming dozens of lives in recent weeks. The Federal Government is yet to respond to Gumi’s fresh allegations.
