Ekiti PDP Faction Sets Conditions for Oluyede’s Governorship Recognition

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) faction in Ekiti State aligned with Minister Nyesom Wike has outlined strict conditions for recognising Dr Wole Oluyede as the party’s candidate for the June 20, 2026 governorship election.

State Chairman of the faction, Lanre Omolase, who claims legitimacy based on court judgments and the party’s state congress, said on Friday that the party is yet to formally recognise Oluyede as its governorship candidate.

Speaking at a press conference in Ado-Ekiti, Omolase stated that Oluyede is still aligned with the Taminu Turaki-led group, which has been restrained by court from parading as the national leadership of the PDP.

“We wish to inform Nigerians and the good people of Ekiti State that Dr Oluwole Oluyede is currently aligned with the Turaki-led group... It is important to state that Dr Oluwole Oluyede has not formally aligned with or publicly affirmed acceptance of the party’s leadership and structure,” Omolase said.

He listed the conditions for recognition as follows:Oluyede must formally submit himself to the party’s leadership and structure.

He must reintegrate his group into the PDP from ward to state level.

If recognised as the flagbearer, he must submit fully and without reservation to the party’s leadership, structure, and constitution.

Oluyede had emerged as candidate under the Turaki faction and had his nomination ratified by the Court of Appeal.

He was also reported to have met with Wike in Abuja earlier this week, a move seen by his supporters as progress toward party unity.

However, Omolase insisted that full integration into the recognised party structure is required. The faction expressed confidence in the PDP’s readiness for the 2026 governorship election.
