The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone C, Owerri, has intercepted 1,025,000 tablets of Tr#madol and 10,000 bottles of Barcadin Codeine Syrup worth ₦1.05 billion along Okada/Ofosu Expressway in Benin, Edo State.
Comptroller Bishir Balogun, in a statement on Saturday, described the seizure as a major breakthrough in the fight against illicit drug trafficking.He said operatives flagged down a truck loaded with the drugs, which were cleverly concealed among legitimate goods.
The driver attempted to flee but abandoned the vehicle and escaped into the bush.Balogun stressed that the operation, which was intelligence-driven, underscores the NCS’s determination to curb the smuggling of Tr#madol and Codeine substances known to fuel drug addiction and crime across the country.
He warned smugglers to desist from such illegal activities, noting that the Service will continue to intensify efforts to protect public health and national security.
The seized drugs are currently in Customs custody, while investigations are ongoing to arrest those involved.
