A driver with Benue Links Nigeria Limited has been arrested by police following the abduction of passengers, including several UTME candidates, along the Makurdi–Otukpo road.
The company confirmed the arrest, stating that the driver is now in police custody as investigations continue.
According to the company’s Information Officer, Johnson Ehi Daniel, the bus was attacked on Wednesday night at Ikobi while conveying passengers.
The vehicle was not authorised for the journey.Two victims have escaped, while 13 others remain in captivity.
The company’s General Manager, Alexander Aondohemba Fanafa, described the incident as distressing.
He revealed that the driver violated company policy by embarking on an unapproved night journey without proper documentation or official approval.
Fanafa assured that the company is collaborating with security agencies to rescue the remaining victims.
Benue State Commissioner of Police, Ifeanyi Emenari, is leading operations to secure their release.
