Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia of Benue State has launched a one-day free meal initiative for residents at two popular eateries in Makurdi, Kilimanjaro and Amala Spot, both located along Iyorchia Ayu Road.
The gesture drew large crowds of residents who turned up to enjoy complimentary meals throughout the day, as the governor seeks to ease economic hardship and foster stronger community ties.
A spokesperson for the governor’s office described the initiative as a demonstration of the administration’s commitment to social welfare and support for local businesses.“Governor Alia believes in giving back to the people and encouraging community engagement,” the spokesperson said.
Beneficiaries praised the governor for the thoughtful and timely intervention, especially amid prevailing economic challenges facing many Nigerians.The free meal programme is expected to run all day at the two restaurants, after which normal operations will resume.
This move forms part of the Benue State Government’s broader efforts to promote unity and provide relief to residents.
