One of four family members abducted by bandits in Niger State has successfully escaped, even as the criminals killed a cyclist and detonated multiple improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in separate attacks.
The victim, Nafisa Sahabi Buba Abdullahi, escaped from her captors after bandits attacked her family in Baban-Rami, Mashegu Local Government Area.
The other abducted victims are Suwaiba Sahabi Buba Abdullahi, Khadija Sahabi Buba Abdullahi, and Fatima Sahabi Abdullahi. Efforts are ongoing to rescue the remaining three.
The abduction occurred after the family head, Alhaji Sahabi Buba Abdullahi, was shot dead by suspected armed bandits in an earlier incident.
In a related development along the Luma National Park forest axis in New Bussa, bandits detonated IEDs near a damaged bridge on a bypass road.
They also shot and killed a cyclist using the route. A truck driver heading towards Wawa unknowingly drove over another IED, causing an explosion that damaged the vehicle. The driver’s current whereabouts remain unknown.
Security forces and local vigilantes have been deployed to the area and are currently trailing the perpetrators.
