Bandits holding eight worshippers abducted from Omugo community in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State are demanding ₦150 million ransom for their release.
The victims were kidnapped on March 22, 2026, during a church service at the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) in Omugo, Oro Ago District.
This marks the third attack on the community in the past six months.Community spokesperson, Olaitan Tajudeen Jimoh, disclosed this during a press conference on Thursday, April 9, 2026.
He revealed that the kidnappers initially demanded ₦1 billion before reducing it to ₦150 million, an amount the affected families say is beyond their reach.
Jimoh described the situation as a humanitarian crisis, noting that many of the victims are elderly and have now spent 18 days in captivity under harsh conditions. The attack has triggered fear and displacement, with several residents fleeing their homes.
“This is not merely a security breach; it is a brutal assault on our faith, our dignity, and our very right to exist,” he said.
The community appealed for urgent government intervention, calling for:
An immediate intelligence-driven rescue operation by federal and state security agencies.
The activation of a police station built by the community but yet to become operational.
The establishment of a Joint Task Force comprising the Nigerian Army, Police, and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.
Integration of local vigilante groups and hunters into the formal security network.
Revd Sunday Omole, who was officiating during the attack, also expressed deep distress over the prolonged captivity and the trauma being endured by the victims’ families.
The community warned that failure to act swiftly could lead to further attacks and spread insecurity to neighbouring areas.
