Atiku Names Benjamin Ugwu SA, Southeast Coordinator for ADC Support Groups


Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has appointed Dr. Benjamin Chika Ugwu as his Special Assistant and Coordinator of Southeast Support Groups.


The appointment was announced on Thursday in a statement issued by the Atiku Media Office in Abuja. 


The statement, signed by Atiku’s Media Adviser, Paul Ibe, said Ugwu will oversee activities across Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo states.


According to the statement, Ugwu is expected to “coordinate, professionalise and support all the Southeast-based support groups” aligned with the former Vice President and chieftain of the African Democratic Congress.


Born on December 22, 1970, Dr. Ugwu is an academic, entrepreneur, public servant and philanthropist. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in English Studies, a Postgraduate Diploma in Economics, an MSc in Economics, and a doctorate in Petroleum Economics.


Ugwu previously served as Special Assistant on Projects and Special Duties to former President Goodluck Jonathan from 2010 to 2015. 


He has also held roles as Regional Director of the African and Caribbean Business Council for Northern, Eastern and Western Africa; Director of Projects and Programming at Project for Human Development NGO in the UK and Nigeria; Manager at Credit Control Management Fund in London and Lagos; and Director General of the Ikenga Award for Excellence Foundation.


He is the Executive Director of the Ben Ugwu Foundation, through which he carries out philanthropic work.
