Arise TV presenter and journalist, Oseni Rufai, became visibly emotional while speaking about the late Brigadier General Musa Uba, the Nigerian Army commander who was killed by terrorists during an ambush in Borno State in November 2025.
During the broadcast, Rufai recalled the tragic
circumstances surrounding the senior officer’s final moments, saying the story
still brings him close to tears.
According to Rufai, General Uba had reportedly sent out a
distress message after his team came under heavy attack while on a mission.
With his device running low on battery, the commander was said to have appealed
for help.
“Dr Abati, I feel like crying. General Uba was in the bush.
He had low battery and made a message saying ‘please come and save me,’” Rufai
said, speaking emotionally during the programme.
He lamented that help never arrived in time.
“The next thing we heard was that the bandits caught him and
killed him. Remember how General Uba’s wife cried that we let General Uba
down,” he added.
Brigadier General Musa Uba was the Commander of the 25 Task
Force Brigade in Damboa, Borno State.
He was widely known for leading operations from the front
line in the fight against insurgency in Nigeria’s North-East.
The senior officer was killed after his convoy was ambushed
by fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) near Wajiroko in
Damboa Local Government Area while returning from a routine military operation.
While early claims from terrorist propaganda suggested he
was captured and later executed, the Nigerian Army honoured him for his bravery
and commitment to leading troops in combat against insurgents.
