Tensions are mounting within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Daura, Katsina State, as party stakeholders resist what they call attempts to impose candidates ahead of the forthcoming elections.
Influential party figures, including Barrister Ahmad El-Marzuq, have openly cautioned against sidelining internal consultations and due process.
In a video circulating on social media, El-Marzuq warned party leaders against being used to force candidates on the people, irrespective of their status.
“They should not allow themselves to be manipulated into forcing any candidate on the people,” he said.
“But if there is dialogue and respect, concessions can be made.”“We will not accept imposed candidates,” El-Marzuq added, echoing the growing demand for transparency and consensus within the party.
The situation is reportedly linked to the speculated legislative ambition of Yusuf Buhari, son of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who is said to be eyeing the Daura/Mai’adua Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives.
Political observers warn that the internal rift could intensify as the party prepares for candidate selection in the politically significant constituency.
